Brisbane’s Newstead ranked the new capital of ‘cool’
Move over Sydney and Melbourne – the trendy Brisbane inner city suburb of Newstead has been ranked as one of the three coolest suburbs to visit in Australia by the popular travel guide company, Lonely Planet.
The once-grim industrial suburb has received high praise from the travel bible. It features alongside Adelaide’s West End and the Perth suburb of Maylands in the Lonely Planet’s iconic list: ‘Three Coolest Australian Neighbourhoods to Visit Right Now.’
Author of Lonely Planet’s Pocket Brisbane and Gold Coast guidebook, Cristian Bonetto, said Newstead has evolved into one of Brisbane’s trendiest addresses.
“Once a jumble of gasworks, timber yards and woolstores, Newstead is now a high-density powerhouse of Brisbane cool,” he wrote.
“Head in early to score posh, baked doughnuts at Nodo Donuts, or tuck into the cult-status cabbage pancakes at locavore cafe and providore Sourced Grocer.
“If you’re thirsty, slurp local craft beers at bus depot-turned microbrewery Newstead Brewing Co, then rock the night away to hotlist bands in former wartime hangar Triffid.”
Local investment in one Brisbane’s ‘best’ suburbs
Long-time local Paul Hoffmann has seen the transformation first-hand and is so impressed with the suburb he is opening a new bar called DRUM with business partner Nick Pinn.
“There was nothing here, but it’s all been happening in the last five years,” he told The Courier Mail.
“The demographic is quite diverse and there’s so much happening here now.
“The transformation has just been unbelievable.”
Last week, Ironfish helped many investors settle properties in ‘Haven’ a new apartment development in Newstead.
“We first introduced Newstead and Haven to our customers in early 2015. We could see then that it was an area with great potential, and the development itself is stunning,” said Ironfish National Housing Manager, Josh Ure.
“There are so many great new cafes and restaurants going into Haven within the ground floor retail area. Betty’s Burgers, Salt Meats Cheese, Miele and one of Brisbane’ s most famous high-end dining establishment E’cco Bistro are calling Haven home. There was a queue out the door for Betty’s Burger the first day it opened! Newstead has definitely established itself as a major lifestyle and cultural centre in Brisbane city. It’s the place to be.”
