Developers sought to deliver a connected future

  • State Government seeking partners to deliver innovative medium to high-density developments along Perth transport corridors
  • Seven sites totalling more than 28,000sqm of land worth about $20 million
  • Developments will enhance use of transport infrastructure and provide affordable homes for people in vibrant and connected precincts

Housing Minister Colin Holt today launched Connected Living, a Liberal National Government initiative aimed at creating more than 500 apartments on seven sites near Perth train stations.

Mr Holt said Connected Living represented a unique opportunity for the private sector to partner with the State Government in delivering innovative and affordable residential housing from Butler to Perth to Wellard.

“This is the first time a Western Australian Government has engaged in a transport-aligned initiative of this scale,” Mr Holt said.

“The Housing Authority is offering the sites – totalling more than 28,000 square metres of land worth about $20 million – through an invitation for expressions of interest.  We encourage the private sector to put forward proposals for those sites that respond to the Connected Living objectives of affordability, diversity, design quality and innovation.”

The Minister said the sites were selected for their proximity to public transport and existing and planned local amenity.

“We need to maximise the use of the State Government’s major transport and infrastructure investment by ensuring the highest and best use of surrounding land for medium and higher-density living and promotion of activity and vibrancy in these areas,” he said.

“This will complement other more traditional housing types nearby, maximising housing choice and opportunity for new and existing residents.”

Mr Holt said that there were distinct advantages for developers when working with the State Government.

“These sorts of opportunities do not come around very often,” the Minister said.

“Working with the Government creates synergies between the public and private sectors to deliver game-changing projects for West Australians in key locations in the Perth metropolitan region.

“I encourage the market to take advantage of the possibilities offered within this initiative; to think innovatively and to put forward developments that will allow the State Government to deliver on Connected Living’s vision of helping to transform the housing market in Perth through the delivery of more affordable developments around key transit precincts and activity centres.”
