New Stadium Train Station construction tender released

Planning for the train station and railway infrastructure to service the new Perth Stadium is well under way with the construction tender – valued at about $100million – released today.

Stadium Station is just one part of the $358million integrated transport component of the stadium and sports precinct, from which up to 28,000 passengers will be able to depart within an hour of an event. Trains will be able to leave Stadium Station every two minutes post-event.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the station would feature six platforms connected by two pedestrian concourses and would be constructed under an alliance arrangement – the same model used on the Perth City Link Rail Alliance.

“Once an alliance is selected to build the station and associated rail works, construction will begin in mid-2015 and is expected to be completed by late 2017,” Mr Nalder said.

“This will provide enough time for testing of the facilities before the stadium and sports precinct opens for the start of the 2018 AFL season.”

Hassell Ltd was awarded a $5.5million contract to prepare the Stadium Station design in June. The upgraded railway infrastructure on the Burswood Peninsula will be able to store up to 117 railcars for use immediately after an event.

The contract for construction of Stadium Station and the associated railway infrastructure will be awarded in early 2015.

The State Government recently revealed the winning design of the new Perth Stadium, which will be a world class, five-tiered stadium with roof coverage over 85 per cent of its seats, a striking bronze facade, LED lights and a wide range of ‘fans first’ facilities.
