US energy services giant launches new Regency Park base

US Energy services company Halliburton today officially opened a new base for its South Australian operations at Regency Park, demonstrating confidence in the State’s growing energy sector.

Premier Jay Weatherill and Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis attended today’s opening, stating that the gas industry will be critical to the growth of South Australia’s economy.

“This new facility is an important milestone for one of the world’s largest and most-established providers of products and services to the energy industry,” Mr Weatherill said.

“Halliburton has been active in South Australia for 50 years, and its operations here have more than doubled in the last three years, growing from an employment base of 178 in October 2011, to 378 in October this year.

“This new site for Halliburton will be the engine room for its South Australian operations, supporting logistics for their Moomba operations and catering for future expansion and growing demand for services and equipment.

“It is another sign of the real benefits and real business opportunities that South Australians can expect to see as the resource and energy sector continues to grow.

“My aim is to create a business environment where more resources and energy service companies like Halliburton establish significant facilities in South Australia.”

Minerals and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said South Australia is at the centre of an energy revolution with billions of dollars spent in the search for oil and gas in this State.

“Various sources estimate there is between 100 and 300 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas in South Australia – that is centuries of gas which could be unleashed as technological advances drive down costs,” Mr Koutsantonis said.

“In the 2013/14 year, there was $531 million of expenditure on gas exploration –three-fold the exploration expenditure two years ago.

“On the horizon to 2020, the oil and gas sector has earmarked $5.8 billion dollars for investment expenditure in both onshore basins, and in Commonwealth waters offshore.”

Established in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry.

The company has dual headquarters in Houston and Dubai, with more than 80,000 employees working in around 80 countries.
