WA company wins stadium contract

  • $30 million contract awarded for new Perth Stadium construction work
  • More than 80 local jobs created

Perth-based construction company CASC has today been awarded a $30 million contract to supply formwork and concrete for the 60,000 seat new Perth Stadium.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said this contract was one of many expected to be awarded to local companies over the coming months.

“The stadium is already drawing benefits for the local economy and this contract alone is expected to create more than 80 new jobs,” Ms Davies said.

“More than 100 tenders will be awarded during the stadium’s three-year construction phase, and with 5,700 workers expected to be involved West Australians are not only getting a world-class facility, there is also huge benefits to the local economy and employment opportunities.

“It is inspiring that local expertise and experience will be used to deliver this truly amazing multi-sport venue.”

The new Perth Stadium is just one example of the State Government’s transformational building program for Perth, including the Perth City Link, Elizabeth Quay and the New Children’s Hospital, which are delivering thousands of jobs in the State.

CASC is the contracting division of Redcliffe-based Global Construction Services and was part of the team that successfully delivered the Fiona Stanley Hospital.

CASC will start work within weeks on the Burswood site and will be on site for around 12 months. The work will involve the provision of formwork, concrete supply, concrete pumping and concrete placement.  The first concrete slab will be poured in mid-2015.

Stadium construction began in December and over the next three years, West Australians will see the impressive five-level stadium structure built to a height of 42 metres. The stadium will be built using more than 10,000 tonnes of structural steel and more than 52,000 cubic metres of concrete – enough to fill 21 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Brookfield Multiplex is part of the Westadium consortium appointed last year to design, build, partially finance and maintain the new Perth Stadium and is also responsible for sourcing and securing the procurement packages for the construction phase.

Last week expressions of interest were invited for the operator responsible for the day-to-day management of the stadium.

Procurement packages are advertised on the CCI WA portal, ProjectConnect and all local businesses, big and small, are encouraged to register their interest.

  • Construction packages are available from ProjectConnect
  • CASC is the contracting division of construction services group Global Construction Services Limited
  • The stadium will be open in time for the 2018 AFL season
