Draft Parramatta Road Urban Transformation Strategy released by NSW Government

NSW Planning Minister Rob Stokes last week released a new draft Parramatta Road Urban Transformation Strategy, ahead of the start of the next round of consultation on the 30-year plan for the corridor.

The community now has the opportunity to comment on the plan for the next three months, with UrbanGrowth NSW leading consultation events along the corridor.

Mr Stokes said the draft strategy has been prepared in collaboration with councils along the corridor.

“This draft plan has been a collaborative effort, and I’m pleased it addresses community feedback which called for more details about public transport, better walking and cycling options, as well as proposed building heights and density,” Mr Stokes said.

“The precinct plans provide principles and targets for growth and development, an integrated land use and transport plan prepared jointly by UrbanGrowth NSW and Transport for NSW.

“We look forward to hearing from the community through the large range of consultation options available.”

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance welcomed the draft strategy together with a new blueprint for future transport options along the corridor.

“This is all about doing the groundwork now so future development comes with the knowledge transport is being planned for,” Mr Constance said.

Also last week, the NSW Government announced a new partnership with Parramatta City Council to plan the future of Parramatta’s Central Business District.

Mr Stokes said the new partnership will help create a new vision for the CBD and support Parramatta to take its place as the city’s second CBD.

“Parramatta is in the midst of a construction boom the likes of which are rarely seen, and we must act now to plan for the city’s future,” the Minister said.

The partnership will involve the establishment of a working group comprising representatives from the Department of Planning and Environment and Parramatta City Council, which will develop a blueprint for Parramatta.
