A personal favourite, this book is for anyone, but especially those looking to invest in real estate. The Psychology of Money offers valuable insights into how our minds impact our investment decisions.  Housel shares 19 short stories about the unconventional ways people think about money, it looks at our psychology and behaviours that can either work for or against us when it comes to financial decisions.

Money can be a tricky subject, it’s not just about what you know, but how you behave when it comes to making financial decisions.

Traditional financial education is usually based on maths and formulas, leaving out the messy reality of personal history and emotions that come into play when making financial decisions.

For property investors, understanding the psychology behind money is essential to making smart decisions. As Housel states, “The biggest challenge in building wealth has nothing to do with money; it’s about managing our own behaviour.” And while it’s nice to have a wealth of financial understanding, if you don’t act on it – you won’t be able to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way.

Book - Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcom Gladwell

Another classic I recommend to real estate investors, this book deals with decision-making and how our intuition can be a powerful tool for making sound investments. Malcom Gladwell dives into the world of “thin slicing” – a concept which suggests that our first impressions can be surprisingly accurate in certain situations.

As a property investor, making quick and smart decisions is crucial for success. But have you ever wondered why some people seem to have a natural talent for decision making, while others struggle? In Blink, author Malcolm Gladwell delves into the concept of thinking without thinking, and how our brains work when it comes to making choices. This book explores the art of decision making, and offers valuable strategies for improving your own abilities. Reading Blink is an eye-opening experience, especially for property investors. Not only does it give them a deeper understanding of their own thought processes, but ultimately it will help them to make better, more informed decisions.

Podcast - The Tim Ferris Show

The original 4-hour workweek guru, Tim Ferriss is a master of productivity, creativity, and lifestyle design. On his popular podcast, the Tim Ferris Show, Tim interviews successful entrepreneurs and investors from all walks of life, exploring their successes, failures, and strategies for success.

The discussions on Tim’s podcast regularly point to the importance of taking action. In my opinion, one of Tim Ferris’ best interviews is the one with Naval Ravikant, where the two discuss happiness and ways to decrease anxiety. Overcoming one’s own doubts and fears is a key factor for success in the real estate investing industry, and Naval’s advice on this is invaluable.

An oldie, but still one of the best personal development and self-motivation audio recordings ever made, The Strangest Secret in the World still holds much relevance today.

In this inspiring and thought-provoking audio recording, Earl Nightingale talks about achieving success by believing in yourself, setting goals, and taking consistent action towards those goals.

The main message of this recording is “you become what you think about” – a powerful message that reminds us of the importance of positive thinking, staying focused on our goals, and taking consistent action.

Final thoughts

Property investing rewards those who take action, but it also requires a certain level of insight, knowledge, and experience. By taking inspiration from the books and podcasts I’ve shared and by listening to the advice of experts, I believe anyone can become a successful real estate investor.
