City of Perth says three proposed developments will add ‘glitz and glamour’ to city

The City of Perth Council last week provided its support to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority for three proposed developments that it said will bring next level glitz and glamour to Perth’s culture and skyline.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the approval of the six-star Ritz Carlton, along with projects at Kings Square and Elizabeth Quay, are an exciting milestone for Perth.

“With each new development approval, the sense of reality and the significance Elizabeth Quay and Perth City Link will bring to our city grows exponentially,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Perth as we know it is changing, our landscape is changing, our skyline is changing and with all the new developments and projects either planned or underway – the experience of Perth will undoubtedly change for the better.”

The council has given its support to a $398.1 million 28-storey mixed use development at The Esplanade (that includes a six-star Ritz Carlton Hotel) and a $190 million 43 to 49-storey residential, retail and café/restaurant development at Kings Square.

The Kings Square building will be home to 563 residential apartments, while The Esplanade development will feature 204 Hotel Rooms (Ritz Carlton Hotel), 379 apartments and active ground floor commercial tenancies.

An Elizabeth Quay single storey kiosk (occupant to be approved at a later date) valued at more than $1.5 million has also been given the go-ahead.

Cr Scaffidi said as the excitement and anticipation of Perth’s new developments increases, the City of Perth is hard at work making sure the City’s amenity will be able to facilitate and accommodate the demands of all the new precincts.

“Together with the State Government, we are undertaking and planning for a number of traffic, transport and street enhancement projects that will improve the accessibility and friendliness of our city streets and spaces,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Whether it is installing more cycle paths, improving pedestrian crossings, or two-way traffic conversions – our goal is to prepare our city for its bright future and to continue to shape Perth as a world class city.”
