Southland Station Improvement opens for Community Consultation
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, has announced community consultation on Southland Station will begin in the coming weeks, and that the new station will include toilets for customers.
The Andrews Labor Government will include toilet facilities in the design after community dismay at the Southland Station proposal released by the former Liberal Government, which lacked basic facilities.
Southland is set to become the fourth busiest station on the Frankston line, moving up to 4,400 passengers a day.
The new station will provide direct and safe access to Southland shopping centre for shoppers and staff.
PTV is meeting directly with local residents this week and will host public consultation sessions on 19 and 21 March.
The feedback period will be open until mid-April and all comments received will be considered when the design of the new station is finalised in May 2015.
Major construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2015, with the new station to open in 2017.
