EOIs invited to design, construct new museum

The State Government has invited local and international contractors to submit expressions of interest (EOI) to design and construct Western Australia’s new museum in the Perth Cultural Centre.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the EOI was the first stage in the procurement process to develop a contemporary museum facility that would showcase WA to the world.
“The new museum is a major infrastructure project that will significantly contribute to the transformation of WA as a modern and vibrant State,” Mr Day said.
“It will be the flagship museum where the stories of our people are shared and the unique environment and biodiversity of WA can be explored.”
The EOI invitation and the process to shortlist prospective contractors have been advertised on the Tenders WA website.
Shortlisted contractors will be invited to submit a detailed submission in response to the request for proposals in mid-2015.
The Minister said the procurement model, which involves appointing a suitable contractor to manage the design and construction team, would ensure value for money and a well-designed facility.
“The Government is seeking managing contractor teams who share the State’s aspiration for a landmark museum that will serve the community for generations to come,” he said.
It is anticipated the successful contractor will be appointed in late 2015, with site works scheduled to start in mid-2016.
