New animation gives a sneak-peak at the future Perth Busport

The West Australian Government has released a new animation that shows how passengers will use the $209 million underground Perth Busport, which will open next year as a replacement to the demolished Wellington Street Bus Station.

In a statement last week, Acting Transport Minister Bill Marmion said the animation provided a fascinating insight into how new technology was making transport smarter. The project includes a system that monitors buses as they approach the station and dynamically allocates each bus a stand at which to stop.

“This smart transport project will offer passengers the very best in terms of comfort, technology and integration, right here on our city’s doorstep,” Mr Marmion said.

“The animation shows just how advanced the underground Perth Busport will be, with an airport-style lounge and a system which will advise passengers at least two minutes before their bus departs.”

Passengers will be able to find their bus stand by checking a digital display screen. Bus routes will always leave from a similar area in the busport, making it even more user-friendly for passengers.

The new dynamic stand management system behind the stand allocation will enable 50 per cent more buses to use the Perth Busport than the old bus station and will cater to demand for at least the next 30 years

The location of the entrances at Kings Street, Queen Street and Yagan Square have begun to appear above ground, with the overall structure now 75 per cent complete.

Mr Marmion said the installation of new real time tracking software in Transperth’s fleet of more than 1,400 buses was well advanced.

“This will allow passengers to see the exact departure time for their bus on the display screens,” he said.

“It’s just another way this Government is investing in high-quality technologies to make our public transport system even more viable, sustainable, and practical for Perth commuters.”
