As we experience the global impacts of Covid-19 from the safety of our homes – the world around us brought to a grinding halt – it is easy to dwell on the negative, and for many, it can feel like time in lockdown is ticking too slowly.

We all look forward to a return to a bit of normalcy; when we can once again gather safely with friends and family and enjoy the wonderful beaches and parks that as Australians, we are so privileged to have at our fingertips. Or to meet again with colleagues or customers face to face for a coffee.

But while we are at home, I am a firm believer in making the most of the situation. I’ve been thinking a lot about how we both as individuals and business can be better prepared for what’s coming next.

Here are five things I’ve been focussing on, and I would encourage others to do the same, so that when this period passes, we will come through together with new skills, qualities, strength and preparedness to face the future.

There’s no doubt we’re facing a major global challenge – a truly unprecedented situation in our lifetime – but I always believe it’s how you react to a situation that will determine how successfully you can come through it.

Lockdown is far from ideal, but using the time to improve ourselves and become better and more valuable to the world, will be time well-spent.
