More local jobs with North South Corridor early works contract

A South Australian company has won the tender to upgrade two road routes critical to the smooth flow of traffic during construction of the North-South Corridor, Torrens to Torrens project.

Dry Creek civil engineering and construction company Bardavcol has been given a $7m contract for early works at James Congdon Drive, and the intersection of South and Richmond roads.

The projects involve an $8.8 million duplication of James Congdon Drive and an $11 million upgrade of the South Road/Richmond Road intersection.

Assistant Federal Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Jamie Briggs said the project showed the state and federal governments were working together to boost the South Australian economy.

“This is another example of the Australian Government’s record investments in South Australia delivering more local jobs and opportunities to grow the economy,” Mr Briggs said.

“The early works will address anticipated extra traffic when the construction of the $896 million Torrens to Torrens project begins later this year.”

The State Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said the project would support 20 jobs during construction.

“It’s great to see a South Australian company chosen for these works and it shows the State Government’s Industry Participation Policy is working well,” Mr Mullighan said.

“This is also great news for motorists and other road users as it will help reduce congestion around the Torrens to Torrens project when works start later this year.”

Bardavcol Chief Executive Darren Foster said such opportunities were exactly what the industry needed.

“This is a very important project for the state and for us,” Mr Foster said.

“In this our 40th year of operation it will be Bardavcol’s 57th contract with DPTI and we hope there are more like it to come.”

Bardavcol was also chosen to upgrade the South Road/Ashwin Parade intersection.

A tender is now open for similar works around the north-western section of the inner city ring route.
