The million-dollar secret: 6 principals of millionaire wealth

If I had a dollar for everyone who’s asked me “what is the secret of your success?…

I usually always smile when I hear this question, because I’m so tempted to answer that there really is no secret. It’s not luck. It’s not chance. And in my case, it’s certainly not about being born into money or having any special advantages growing up.

Everything you seek, everything you need to know about building millionaire wealth is there for the taking. It’s in the books you read, the podcasts you listen to, the webinars you watch, the people you surround yourself with and in this situation, the actions you take after reading this particular article.

I can think of 3 words that have defined my success, and that of many other wealthy people.

  1. Vision
  2. Discipline
  3. Action

When some people hear these words, their minds might drift to some lofty ideal and belief that they have to make big changes in their lives. But think of it this way. Every day you’re already putting these 3 little words into motion.

Vision: You get up in the morning and plan your day, be it what you’re going to be doing at work, or how you’re going to entertain the children.

Discipline: You practice self-discipline every day to shower, get dressed, eat breakfast.

Action: You go to work. You take the kids to school. You’re making your day happen the way it needs to.

So now let’s look at those same ideals and apply them to the mindset of a millionaire, and the 6 transformational principles of everyday life.

1. Rise with the Sun: The Power of Early Mornings

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” – Benjamin Franklin

Who would have thought that this little children’s poem would have so much wisdom to it in our adult lives. In China we have a saying “the essence of the day is early morning.”

In the early hours, when the world is still, using those precious moments of silence to mentally prepare for the day ahead can be life changing. Get out of the habit of pressing ‘snooze’, (we’ve all heard the expression ‘you snooze, you lose!) and focus instead on more positive rituals such as visualising your goals, deep breathing and meditating to enhance your mental clarity.

I find the act of spending half an hour with myself every morning thinking quietly about my life continues to develop my mental toughness. I’m also very disciplined about my gratitude journal, and remembering the things I am grateful for has the power to put me in a positive mindset no matter what the day brings.

2. Health fuels wealth

A healthy body is the bedrock of a vibrant mind. Regular exercise isn’t just about keeping fit; it’s about maintaining the energy and vitality needed to stay the course on your property investment journey.

You don’t have to strive for athletic prowess. I find just 20 minutes stretching in the morning loosens my body and opens my mind.

Of course, my passion for table tennis when I was younger was legendary around my friends and colleagues, and because I enjoyed it so much, I was very disciplined about my training. So I highly recommend you find physical activities you enjoy, be it swimming, walking the dog, yoga, dancing… and make it a non-negotiable in your daily or weekly schedule. This is just another example of how being disciplined in one area of your life can impact all other areas.

3. Read every day

I’ve always been a voracious reader and still consistently reread a number of books. I must have read Dale Carnegie’s book ‘How to win friends and influence people’ more than 100 times and every time I still find new ways to apply it in my daily business and personal life.

Beside regularly reading industry publications, news, and market reports to stay updated on trends and opportunities, my personal reading list includes:

  • The Science of Getting Rich: How to make money and get the life you want, By Wallace D Wattles.
  • Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, By T.Harv EKer.
  • Think and grow Rich, By Napoleon Hill
  • Rich Dad Poor Dad, By Robert T. Kiyoskai

4. Engage in magical thinking

At its core, magical thinking empowers us to tap into the depths of our imagination, fostering a sense of hope and possibility. Magical thinking involves a certain amount of reflection, and often by looking back on our lives and how far we’ve come is a powerful way to see the path forward in a much clearer light.

Without reflection, we can go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful. Setting aside time to think allows you to gain clarity, organise your thoughts, and develop new ideas.

Reflect on past investments, learning from both your successes and mistakes. This self-reflective thinking aids personal growth and improves your decision-making process.

5. Commit to routines

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit,” Aristotle.

If you rely on motivation alone to get things done, you may find there are days when you just can’t seem to get anything done at all. Routines can help calm your mind and reduce your stress levels.

By forming healthy, helpful habits instead, you will be able to do the things that need to get done even when you don’t feel like it. This can help you achieve all kinds of personal, business, and financial goals.

Implement daily rituals such as setting investment goals, tracking progress, and celebrating small wins to maintain motivation and discipline.

6. Practice discipline

Simply put, discipline is the habit of doing positive things on a regular basis. That’s it. Without discipline in your life, you’re essentially just winging it, and I personally don’t know of anyone in any field who became successful that way!

Discipline means different things to different people, but here’s what I’m most disciplined about.

  • Living a healthy lifestyle
  • Being grateful for what I have and for the people around me, especially my wife, my children and my friends
  • Learning something new every day and finding ways to continually develop my skills
  • Passing my knowledge onto others
  • Taking action towards my goals every single day. And if there’s only one thing you take away from this article, I hope it’s that.
